Silver Streaker Whole Again

BELVIDERE, IL – It’s not often when you come back from the launch site with more rockets than when you left.

The Space Program in Training celebrated their one year anniversary, launching ten rockets in an hour.  They used a large cardboard box to carry them out to the launch site.  The box hadn’t been used in awhile, at least since early March.

“After all the rockets were taken out of the box, I noticed something shiny wedged in the bottom,” said Bob.  It turned out to be a piece of fin, missing from the Silver Streaker.  On its maiden flight, the Silver Streak – an Estes Metalizer kit – crashed.  The fin snapped off, but it was a clean break.  Later in the month, SPIT had time to repair their rockets and couldn’t fix Silver Streaker because they couldn’t find the broken piece.

The ground crew cleaned the piece and reattached it to the broken fin this evening.  The fix took less than ten minutes.  The Space Program in Training hopes to launch it the next time they fly, weather permitting.
